They're coming...They're coming....

They're coming....my in-laws are coming! I have mixed emotions. I can't wait for them to get back home to see them and hear all about their new adventure and to show them our progress, but we are not quite ready to move in! We have been making huge strides and trust me it is not because of lack of effort on Dustin's part.  He has worked his tail off, but he's only 1 person.

The carpet is in, so at least the amount of dust has been decreased.  We have started the cleaning process this weekend. The fireplace is completed, the vanity top/sinks and vanity box is made no drawers or doors.  No toliets yet, but heck who needs em'! At least we have the kitchen sink and sinks in the main bathroom done. YEAH!  This weekend I painted the inside of the pantry, Dustin reinforced the shelves and cut new shelves for it. You're probably asking yourself...I thought she said the painting was done?!  Well I forgot about the pantry and while I probably could have left it,  insane, crazy, OCD little Kara came out and said..."take the time and paint the damn pantry!" So now when you come and visit and look amongst the canned goods and snacks you can admire the newly painted pantry or for most.... you won't even notice since the door will be shut.

We had to make a mad dash to Aberdeen today to get a few necessities.  We needed some thinset to finish the shower, more trim, a new toliet seat; and to spare our neighbors of a horrific sight...window coverings for our bedroom!  I am in desperate need of some retail therapy and somehow Menards is just not cutting it for me nor is taking 2 kids and a husband to the mall, so a trip to Target and Walmart and home it was!!  I am up for a good shopping trip with no kids and until then...I guess ACE Hardware, Hardware Henk, and Alco will have to do.

Dustin says....we are sleeping there tomorrow night.  I say....YIKES! He assures me we will have at least one toliet working on the main floor.  I wish I had a few more pictures to show you, so you could understand my hestancy.  I will share a picture of Dustin's Valentine's gift...now keep in mind I saw him before I went to work on Valentine's Day and not again until 1 a.m because I was on call, so he had some makin' up to do and plenty of time to get something nice. Also keep in mind this is a family blog, so for all my head-in-the-gutter-friends kindly come back out of the gutter.
It's the little things in life....ice out of our ice maker...which also means
I have a functioning kitchen sink!

This weekend we've been busy cleaning, cutting liners for the inside of all my kitchen shelves/drawers,  trying to organize, and getting Rich & Mary Ellen's house back in order  I guess I have been slacking in the photography department. This now has carpet in front of it too, which looks even nicer.  I promise to get some other pictures up hopefully in the next week or so.

Dustin's fireplace job!
So the next time I post something on here, it will be from the comfort of my 70's basement on my own computer or from a padded room because living in a mess may just end up sending me over the edge.  There are very few moments in my life that I wish I didn't have so much of my mother in me, but the need to have things in order and organized before my mind can rest is one of them.

Progress....

We have made little progress lately, but have kicked it into high gear this week knowing the in-laws are coming home soon!  Not that we don't love them dearly, but I am sure they would like their house back and I would LOVE to have a home to call our own and SOON!  I texted my father-in-law asking him to return and motivate Dustin...his reply...patience is a virtue...My reply...You've known me long enough to know I don't have patience! His reply..Me either and probably never will!  But he also hasn't come to rescue me, so maybe he's secretly trying to teach me a life lesson or it could be the fact that he's too busy enjoying the sun and getting a tan on the golf course in Nevada!

Dustin fortunately has been busy with his business as I recently posted, but this momma has lit a fire under his caboose this week and he is makin' headway!! Go honey go!!  Carpet is scheduled for Wednesday 2/13 in the living room. The painting is all but completed, just a few minor touch-ups here and there. We have a small amount of floor grouting to do.  The kitchen has everything, but a functioning kitchen sink, trim, and some crown moulding, minor details right?!  The fireplace is almost ready to be rocked and the trim is stained/finished and ready to be put up.  We have some work to do on the bay window yet and the living room will be completed.

You ask...well what else could be left?  Oh yeah...the 2 bathrooms. I told you I was spoiled, right?!  I know...I know who needs a functioning facility on the main floor..... ME! The tub is in, floor down, the walls painted, so we just need to tile the tub surround, put in the faucets/shower heads, put in a new closet door, hang some mirrors, which aren't made yet and build a vanity. That's right...I have kindly asked him to build me a double sink vanity for the main bathroom.  We did agree on a vanity/sink combo for the 1/2 bath, so he's off the hook for that one! He has the wood for the vanity, so we have made some progress! Stay tuned for those pictures.

I will put some pictures up of the latest improvements...sometimes I feel like I am a host on HGTV giving the play by play of a remodel, but in S-L-L-O-O-W-W motion.
While grouting I called my family and reminded them to admit me to a
mental institute if I mention a remodel again.

Fireplace ready to be rocked. Dustin even
made the oak mantel as I requested.

Door to the coat closet in the living room!

My "pop" of color in the kitchen!
Wade says it's out of the 70s, so I said I'm tryin' to keep some authenticity
to the house since it was built in the 70s!
Sounds good, right?!... when the truth is
I just like red!

"Looks like it's level to me dad!"
